Romania bans advertising of e-cigarettes and nicotine packs

Romania's House of Representatives passed a bill this week banning the advertising of e-cigarettes and nicotine packs, Romanian Insider reports.

"Explicit advertising of tobacco products, e-cigarettes (including e-cigarette types), tobacco substitute products for inhalation without burning, electronic devices for heating tobacco, tobacco substitute products for inhalation without burning, and oral nicotine packs (bags) shown on radio and television programs and on public transportation tickets are prohibited," the bill states.

The bill also prohibits the advertising of these products within educational and medical institutions or within 200 meters of their entrances. Advertising is also prohibited in publications aimed primarily at minors and in theatres before, during and after performances aimed at minors. Advertisements targeting minors, depicting minors consuming these products, suggesting that these products have therapeutic properties or are stimulating, calming or can solve personal problems, giving a negative image of abstinence or not containing warning inscriptions in Romanian are prohibited.
