Argentina raises tobacco taxes: Brands such as Marlboro raise prices by 5% to 20%

According to LA Arena reported on July 17, the increased tobacco tax policy has come into effect in Argentina over the weekend, and the price of all brands of cigarettes has experienced a general increase of between 5% and 20%, depending on the brand and package size. The price change affects several well-known brands including Marlboro, Philip Morris, Chesterfield and Harmony.

 

Following the ratification of the Basic Law, the Argentine Government Gazette formally announced the tax increase measures through General resolution 5524/2024 and began the implementation of the so-called "internal and additional emergency taxes on cigarettes". Under the new policy, which took effect on Saturday, the additional emergency tax on cigarette sales is based on a nationwide rate of 7 percent on the final retail price of each pack of cigarettes, without any tax deduction.

 

Specific to the price adjustment of each brand, the new Marlboro price is as follows:

 

The Red Box 20 is $3.620, the Red KS 20 is $3.190, the Red Box 12 is $2.170, the Blue Coral XL Box 20 is $3.470, and the Vista Limited Edition Box 20 is also $3.470.

 

The price adjustments for the Philip Morris brand are: boxed 20 for $3.010, KS 20 for $2.660, boxed 12 for $1.790, Blue Spin box 20 for $3.040 and random Blue Spin box 12 for $1.820.
